Water Utilities
Water/Sewer/Trash are a combined service provided by the City. Please see links below for rates and the application for service.
The water meters are read around the 19th of each month. You must have a clear and unimpeded access path for our city employees to access your meter. Also, please restrain any pets. If the meter is not accessible due to any reason such as unrestrained dog/pet, excessive weeds, locked gate, etc, the water meter reading will be estimated. The bill will be marked as estimated and the reason for it. The bills will be sent out by the 1st of each month and will be due on the 10th. Late fees will apply if not paid in a timely manner. There will be a $30.00 service charge applied to all returned checks or payments. Utility bills can be paid with check, cash, money order, online through the link on the website, ACH (automatically collected from your bank account on the 10th), or credit/debit card (2.95% convenience fee applied for all card processing). Payments can be dropped off inside City Hall between the hours of 8am and 1pm Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri excluding posted holidays, left in the water payment drop box located at the street in front of City Hall, or by mail using the PO Box address listed below.
Sanitation & Recycling
Weekly trash pick up is part of a combined service along with the City water and sewer services.
Garbage is contracted with Geer Sanitation. All residents within the city limits of New Market pay a $16.00 monthly fee which is included with the water and sewer charges. All residents are required to pay the garbage fee regardless of whether the services are utilized. Trash is to be set out at the curb by 8:00 am every Tuesday. If it is not out by the time the collectors pass your residence, it will not be picked up. The maximum limit of waste per week is 4 not to exceed thirty gallons each bags, 2 thirty gallon garbage cans, or a combination of each ie. 1 thirty gallon can and 2 not to exceed thirty gallons each bags. Each residence is required to supply their own garbage collection containers whether it be bags or cans or combination of both. This is a weekly limit and applies even when you have missed a week of collection. Extra container stickers may be purchased at City Hall or from Bobby Geer for $1.00 per sticker. Each additional container over and above the weekly limit is required to have a sticker placed on it or it will not be picked up. The landfill does not allow Geer Sanitation to haul the following items: yard waste (grass, leaves, sticks, etc), paint (unless completely dried), tires, iron, oil, appliances, and chemicals. If you have these items that need to be disposed of, please contact Robert Geer, Geer Sanitation, directly in order to schedule a separate pick-up for an additional fee. The City has a City Wide Clean-up day each year in early June in which some of these items can be disposed. Geer Sanitation does not provide recycling pick-up. However, there are recycling receptacles located across the street from City Hall next to the Mighty Wash car wash. This is a free service the City of New Market provides its citizens. Please see the attached list of acceptable items for the recycle receptacles.
