Sanitation & Recycling

The City of New Market, Iowa contracts with an outside waste management company for solid waste collection as well as an outside recycling company to service a drop off location for recycling.  All residential customers within the city limits are required to have garbage collection.

Most trash and debris, when properly bundled and/or contained properly, can be disposed of at curbside on your regular garbage service days. Garbage is contracted with Geer Sanitation.  All residents within the city limits of New Market pay a monthly fee which is included with the Water and Sewer charges.  All residents are required to pay the garbage fee regardless of whether the services are utilized.  Trash is to be set out at the curb by 8:00 am every Tuesday.  If it is not out by the time the collectors pass your residence, it will not be picked up.  Holidays may or may not effect the date of pick-up.  Please refer to the City Calendar for pick-up schedule.  Any changes to the collection date will be posted at least 1 week prior.  Please feel free to sign up for our alert notification program to receive alerts through text messages and/or emails.  The maximum limit of waste per week is 4 thirty gallon bags, 2 thirty gallon garbage cans, or a combination of each ie. 1 thirty gallon can and 2 thirty gallon bags.  Each residence is required to supply their own garbage collection containers whether it be bags or cans or combination of both.  This is a weekly limit and applies even when you have missed a week of collection.  Extra container stickers may be purchased at City Hall for $1.00 per sticker or through Bobby Geer, Geer Sanitation.  Each additional container over and above the weekly limit is required to have a sticker placed on it or it will not be picked up.  The landfill does not allow Geer Sanitation to haul the following items:  yard waste (grass, leaves, sticks, etc), paint (unless completely dried), tires, iron, oil, appliances, and chemicals.  If you have these items that need to be disposed of, please contact Robert Geer, Geer Sanitation, directly in order to schedule a separate pick-up for an additional fee.  The City has a City Wide Clean-up day each year in early May in which some of these items can be disposed.  Geer Sanitation does not provide recycling pick-up.  However, there are recycling receptacles located across the street from City Hall next to the Mighty Wash car wash.  This is a free service the City of New Market provides its citizens.

For questions specific to trash or recycling pick up, please call the waste management/recycling company directly.
